For NEMT operators

Driver App for NEMT, Paratransit, and School Transportation

One driver app for every vehicle your operation runs. Manifests, turn-by-turn navigation, proof of pickup and drop-off, pre-trip inspections, and real-time dispatch communication — whether the driver is behind the wheel of a wheelchair van, a school bus, or a paratransit shuttle.

Driver App
What This Capability Does

One driver app your whole operation runs on

Drivers don’t work in the office. They work in vehicles, in weather, with their hands full. A driver app has to be fast, reliable, and clear — or drivers will ignore it. A bad driver app creates more work for dispatch, more errors in billing, and more frustration for everyone involved.

NEMT Cloud Dispatch built the driver app around the realities of passenger transportation work. The manifest shows the day's trips in the order the driver needs them. Turn-by-turn navigation is embedded, so drivers don't switch to a separate GPS app. Specialty notes for each rider — wheelchair securement, aide required, harness, medical alerts, travel restrictions — appear on the trip card before the driver arrives at pickup.

What makes the app cross-industry is flexibility. An NEMT driver sees patient-specific notes with HIPAA-appropriate access controls. A school bus driver sees student manifests with FERPA-appropriate controls and IEP accommodations. A paratransit driver sees ADA-relevant pickup window details and mode-of-transport requirements. Same app. Same interface. Different visibility based on the role and the rider type.

For NEMT operators

Driver app for NEMT operations

NEMT drivers move between patient pickups under time pressure with HIPAA constraints on what can be seen and shared. The app surfaces only the information the driver needs for each trip — rider name, pickup and drop-off locations, appointment time, specialty equipment required (wheelchair type, aide, oxygen), medical alerts, and any notes from the facility or broker.

application 1

Proof of pickup and drop-off capture is the payment backstop. Medicaid and broker claims require documented proof. The app captures GPS-stamped pickup and drop-off events with one tap. Signatures — rider or attendant — are captured on-screen. Photos can be added for documentation when policy requires it. The data flows back to dispatch and billing in real time, not at end of shift.

Broker-specific workflows are honored. When a Modivcare trip completes, the app captures the completion data in Modivcare’s required format. Same for MTM, Kaiser, VectorCare, Access2Care, Alivi, HBSS. Drivers don’t learn seven different completion processes — the app handles the variation behind the scenes.

For school transportation

Driver app for School Bus Drivers

The NEMT Cloud Dispatch driver app is deliberately simple for school transportation. The manifest shows the day's route with stops in order. Student-specific notes — IEP accommodations, harness required, curbside pickup, specific seating, aide on board — appear on the relevant stop card. Turn-by-turn navigation kicks in on detours or substitute routes. Pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection checklists are built in, meeting state requirements for documented pre-trip.

School bus drivers are a different population than NEMT drivers. Many are part-time. Many have been driving the same route for years and don't want a new gadget to learn. An app that works for NEMT drivers doesn't automatically work for school bus drivers.

Student ridership tracking is optional. Districts that want to track which students boarded the bus can do so via the app. Districts that don't want additional complexity can skip it. Either way, the underlying software is the same.

For Paratransit Operators

Driver app for paratransit drivers

The driver sees the pickup window clearly for each trip. If running behind, the app flags it and dispatch sees it simultaneously. ADA-required specialty equipment is confirmed on the manifest before the driver leaves the depot. For subscription riders (recurring paratransit trips), the app remembers past routes and rider preferences so each trip doesn't start from zero.

Paratransit drivers work under ADA service standards that are legally enforced. Pickup windows are not negotiable. Mode-of-transportation matching is a compliance issue, not a preference. The app has to support these realities rather than making them harder.

For contracted paratransit operators serving multiple agencies, the app honors each agency's reporting requirements transparently — the driver doesn't learn three different completion processes when working routes for three different agencies.

Core Capabilities

Core driver app capabilities

These capabilities ship in the driver app across NEMT, paratransit, and school transportation operations:

IOS and Android native apps

Native mobile apps, not responsive web pages. Install from the App Store or Google Play. Updates push automatically.

Daily manifest with trip details

Full day of trips in order, with rider details, specialty notes, and pickup/drop-off instructions appearing on each trip card.

Turn-by-turn navigation

Embedded navigation with traffic awareness. No switching to a separate GPS app. Dispatch route changes push automatically.

Proof of pickup and drop-off

One-tap capture with GPS stamp. Rider or attendant signature on-screen. Photos attachable for documentation.

Pre-trip and post-trip inspections

Configurable inspection checklists for DVIR, state-specific requirements, and operator-specific items. Completed inspections submit to dispatch and maintenance automatically.

Specialty notes per rider

Wheelchair securement method, harness, aide required, medical alerts, travel restrictions, IEP accommodations — all visible before the driver reaches pickup.

Offline mode

Continues to function when cell service drops. Trip data, proof captures, GPS events, and inspections log locally and sync when connection returns.

Dispatch communication

Two-way messaging with dispatch inside the app. Integrated VoIP calling optional. Every conversation logged to the trip record.

Driver behavior scoring

GPS-based scoring on speeding, harsh braking, harsh acceleration, and idle time. Scores visible to dispatch and fleet management. Coaching is data-backed.

Language support

Multi-language interface support for drivers whose first language is not English. Critical for operations serving diverse communities.

Why operators choose us

Why operators choose NEMT Cloud Dispatch for driver apps

Built for drivers, not for demos

The app works in real conditions — cold weather, gloves, bad lighting, spotty cell service. Drivers use it because it works, not because they’re forced to.

Cross-industry coverage

Same app for NEMT, school, and paratransit drivers. Operators with mixed fleets don’t deploy three driver apps.
Offline-first architecture
Many driver apps fail when cell service drops. Ours is designed to keep working — captures local, syncs later, never loses data.

HIPAA + FERPA + ADA aware

The same app respects HIPAA for NEMT data, FERPA for student data, and ADA for paratransit pickup windows. Compliance is baked in, not retrofitted.

Included at every pricing tier

Driver apps are included in every plan, not an add-on. $49.99/month for solo operators, $149.99/month for up to 5 vehicles. Drivers don’t cost extra.

Frequently Asked Questions

A transportation driver app gives drivers everything they need for a shift: the trip manifest, turn-by-turn navigation, rider-specific specialty notes, proof of pickup and drop-off capture, pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, and real-time communication with dispatch. NEMT Cloud Dispatch provides one driver app used by NEMT, paratransit, and school bus drivers.

Yes. When cellular service drops, the app continues to function. Trip data, proof captures, GPS events, and inspection submissions log locally and sync back to the platform automatically when connection returns. Rural routes and underground parking don’t break the workflow.

Yes. Native apps on both iOS and Android. Drivers download from the App Store or Google Play. Updates push automatically. No web-browser workarounds.
Each driver logs in with unique credentials. They see only their own trips for the day and only the information authorized for their role. HIPAA for NEMT, FERPA for school, ADA for paratransit — the access model respects the compliance framework of each trip type.
Proof of pickup (POP) and proof of drop-off (POD) are documented evidence — GPS-stamped event, timestamp, often a signature or photo — that confirm a rider was picked up and dropped off at the correct location at the correct time. Medicaid and NEMT brokers require POP/POD for claim approval. The driver app captures both with a one-tap workflow.
Yes. Two-way messaging with dispatch is built in. Integrated VoIP calling is optional. Every conversation is logged to the relevant trip record, so disputes, coaching, and audits can reference actual communication history.
Yes. Pre-trip and post-trip inspection checklists are configurable per vehicle type, per operator, and per state compliance requirement. Completed inspections submit to dispatch and fleet maintenance automatically. Problems flagged during pre-trip route to the right person for resolution.
Yes, and many operators with mixed fleets do. The app adapts to the trip type — a school bus driver sees student manifests with FERPA-appropriate access; an NEMT driver sees patient data with HIPAA controls. Same app, different information model based on the role and the trip
